Podcast Editing Checklist for Audio and Video

Use this checklist before publishing a podcast episode. The exact scope depends on the format, but each item helps protect clarity, consistency, and a clean experience across audio, video, and short-form clips.

1. Confirm source files and sync

• All camera, microphone, screen, and presentation files are present.
• Separate audio and video sources are synchronised.
• Frame rates, sample rates, and orientation issues are identified.
• Backup copies remain available outside the editing project.

2. Review the conversation structure

• The opening gives the listener enough context.
• False starts, long technical pauses, and accidental repetition are reviewed.
• Necessary nuance is not removed for speed.
• Sensitive, private, or off-record sections supplied for removal are excluded.
• The episode ending and next step are clear.

3. Clean and balance dialogue

• Speaker levels are reasonably consistent.
• Distracting noise, hum, clicks, or severe breaths are reduced where practical.
• Processing does not make voices sound artificial.
• Music and effects do not cover speech.
• The final loudness and peak levels suit the delivery platform.

4. Check the video edit

• Camera changes follow the active speaker and conversation naturally.
• Jump cuts and reframes do not become distracting.
• Speaker names, titles, and supplied facts are accurate.
• Logos, colours, fonts, intro, outro, and layout match the series.
• Inserted images, screenshots, and clips are cleared for use.

5. Prepare accessibility and discovery assets

• Captions or a transcript are reviewed for names and specialist terms.
• The episode title and description accurately represent the conversation.
• Chapters or timestamps are useful and correctly placed.
• Thumbnail and social copy do not make unsupported claims.

6. Export and quality-check

• Audio and video files use the agreed formats and resolution.
• The full export is checked for black frames, missing media, sync drift, muted tracks, and spelling errors.
• File names and versions are clear.
• Platform uploads are spot-checked after processing.

7. Select short-form clips

Choose moments that can stand alone with enough context. Avoid extracting only the most dramatic sentence if the missing context changes its meaning. Adapt captions, layout, and pacing for the short-form platform instead of simply cropping the full episode.
